A bridge between tradition and contemporary
Between Sicilian roots and contemporary style
At the heart of the Sicilian artisan tradition, Kamá design reinvents Le Picciotte, hand-carved female heads decorated with vivid colors, symbolizing elegance, strength, and cultural identity.
Origin and meaning of the name: In Sicilian dialect, "Picciotte" means "the girls," evoking the youth, beauty, and charm of the island's women.
Unlike the more famous "Moorish heads," Le Picciotte represent an exclusively feminine narrative. Kamá Design does not re-propose the past nostalgically but reinventes it. Le Picciotte speak to those who want to surround themselves with vibrant, not static, beauty. To those who love art that dialogues with history but lives in today's homes: in an urban loft as well as in a country villa.

Sicilian femininity
Le Picciotte Kamà, icons of Sicilian femininity, where art, culture, and design meet
In the landscape of contemporary craftsmanship, Le Picciotte manage to encapsulate identity, aesthetics, and narrative.
Behind these female heads, with their proud smiles, deep gazes, symbolism, and intense colors, Sicily is celebrated in all its expressive power, blending ancient roots and modern taste into a unique visual and material language.
It's not just about aesthetics: each Picciotta is a declaration of cultural pride, a tribute to the Mediterranean woman, strong, elegant, and a guardian of traditions.
Ceramic is the primary material, treated with brilliant glazes and textured finishes. The decorations range from Sicilian, Baroque, and marine inspirations to pop and whimsical touches, making each creation unique and unrepeatable.

Craftsmanship and materials
Hand-modeled from a block of clay, a plaster mold is then made to reproduce multiple copies by applying the clay by hand with a certain pressure.
In the second phase, various applications are added: earrings, necklaces, crown decorations, turbans, and floral decorations, all hand-modeled.
After the clay drying phase, the first firing takes place.
The next phase is decoration, which is done by hand by master ceramic decorators.
The final phase is the second firing for the enamel fusion and thus vitrification, which gives the ceramic its final appearance.
Any other details such as gold, platinum, or mother-of-pearl accents are created through a third firing.
THE STAGES OF CERAMIC PROCESSING

FORMING
Clay is molded to give it shape

DRYING
The water contained in the clay is evaporated

FIRST FIRING
This takes place at a temperature of approximately 1000 degrees. The bisque is created, still porous

ENAMELLING
It is the method by which the biscuit is coated with glaze, a glassy layer that makes it waterproof

DECORATION
This is achieved thanks to the talent of master decorators who meticulously create the typical decorations of Caltagirone ceramics with their brushes

SECOND FIRING
It occurs at a temperature of 900 degrees and serves to permanently fix the enamel, making the piece very resistant over time
